EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT :: Weed Day 2018

May 17, 2018

UC Weed Science
Weed Day 2018 comes to UC Davis July 12

You can read about the latest weed-science research being conducted at UC Davis, but nothing beats seeing it for yourself. That's why pest control advisors, chemical company cooperators, faculty, students and regulatory officials continue to gather at UC Davis each July for Weed Day, an annual tour of the vast array of weed-control field trials underway.

This year's 62nd Annual Weed Day will be held Thursday, July 12, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. As always, it will begin with a bus tour of various weed-science research plots and in the afternoon, after a nice lunch, staff and students will present information on projects that are either not in-season or located too far off-campus for viewing.

“Weed management is always an important part of crop production and land management,” says Cooperative Extension Specialist Brad Hanson, chair of this year's event. “The morning session will focus on crop injury symptoms from herbicides, weed identification, and herbicide performance in orchards, vineyards, and aquatic systems. We'll also have a chance to take a look at a water jet-based method of physical weed control in vineyards. After lunch, we'll listen to presentations on a wide range of weed control research being conducted by UC scientists from campus and county-based cooperative extension personnel. We'll also get some further training on weed ID, respirator use and safety, and useful weed science application available for your smart phone.”

And that's just a sampling of the topics in store. The cost is $100 for registration received by June 10, and $50 for students with a valid student ID. The cost goes up after June 10. For more details and to register, see http://wric.ucdavis.edu and click on WEED DAY or call (530) 752-1748.
