A quick note to day to remind people about the upcoming Western Society of Weed Science meeting that will be held March 11-14 at the Catamaran Resort in San Diego.
This is a great place to get caught up on weed science issues in the western US and Canada. Because the meeting will be held in California this year, I think we'll see a lot of focus on CA issues. A copy of the meeting program is available HERE if you want to take a look.
We'll have research posters and papers in each of our regular sessions including:
- Weeds of Range and Natural Areas
- Weeds of Horticultural Crops
- Weeds of Agronomic Crops
- Teaching and Technology Transfer
- Basic Biology and Ecology
A quick run through of the program shows that UC Weed Science is well represented in the program and in operating the meeting.
- Carl Bell (UCCE) and Kassim Al-Khatib (UCIPM) are both speaking in the plenary session.
- John Roncoroni (UCCE) and Lynn Sosnoskie (UCD) are co-chairs of the Weeds of Hort Crops Section
- Yours truly (Brad Hanson, UCD) is chairing the Education and Regulatory Section that will include a minisymposium on biofuel crops in California.
- and I see a number of UC weed science faculty, specialists, advisors, research staff and students as authors or coauthors including: Bell, DiTomaso, Erickson, Fischer, Garcia, Hanson, Hembree, Jasieniuk, Kyser, LeStrange, Mejorado, Moretti, Norris, Okada, Orloff, Smith, Sosnoskie, Watkins, Wright, and probably others that I missed.
Should be a great meeting at a really nice facility on Mission Bay. Hope to see you there.
